The National Portrait Gallery has a Free Admission policy
however some Exhibitions have an admission fee and require tickets which
can be obtained from the Information Desk.
The National Portrait Gallery is home to the largest
collection of portraits, including photography, of famous British men and
women.
The Gallery was founded in 1856 to make a systematic
collection of the portrait images of those important in the history of the
nation, and this year it celebrates its 150th Anniversary.
The Gallery holds 10,000 portraits in the primary collection
and another 300,000 in the reference collection. It is open seven days a
week, with late night opening until 9pm on Thursdays and Fridays.
